First, this is an amazing app, I use it all the time, its worth all the money... This said, it needs some improvements and new functions. I work in the recording industry, and I know for a fact that, just like me, people would definitely pay a 100$, even more, for this app if:
- There was a mute button for each tracks
- Another window in which you could see each individual waves and have edit functions like: Copy, Past, Move, Delete, Duplicate etc..
- A punch in punch out function
- A click
- A Sequencer and a sampler with drum samples
- The option to load audio files to a track
- More tracks
- The possibility to monitor while you record
- A wave editor
- Basic effects that could be inserted to each tracks (Equalizer, reverb, compressor, limiter)
I work at a music store, and we sell thousands of portable recorders, there is a market for this. For those who knows where Im going with this, just imagine if we would have this directly on our iPhones!!
Lets push this even further..
Imagine if a company would sell an adapter that would have a stereo output, so we could plug in any headphones and an input so we could plug in a microphone, or a guitar or even a synthesizer!?
I have no clue what are the limits of the iPhone, but just imagine if FourTrack and BeatMaker would merge together!! It would be crazy! This is possible..
This said, theres a few bugs with FourTrack:
- While a song is playing, if you dont stop the song before going back to the beginning of the song, some tracks will be out of sync. The workaround: while the song is playing, press stop, press the left arrow to go back to the beginning of the song, press play, and everything will be in sync.
- Sometimes, before arming a track to record, you will monitor the microphone with delays and glitches.. But as soon as you start recording it stops, so its not a big issue.
- Most of us will do multiple takes of the same track in order to get the performance wanted, it would be great if it wouldnt automatically switch to the next track when you stop recording.
I think FourTrack has a lot of potential.. what do you think?
