As the words man for the Vancouver based psycidelic trip band The Mystery Body, this tool has proved to be an asset with the hectech life I lead. I dont know how I got by with out it. Everytime I feel it should be better, bam they update it. Thank you for making life easyier.

Nice update (vs.2)

I love this thing. After procrastinating writing songs for so many years, its gotten me started again because its so damn handy. Wish list for next update: #1 An easier download. Id rather be able to download the entire contents. Italk has a much better system for downloading audio files. Plus it doesnt hang in mid download. #2 Playback through the main speaker. #3 Delete track. #4 Name track. Thanks for the metronome, and finally, I can bounce tracks!!!! Good work.

Almost Perfect

I purchase the 1.0 as it seemed like a cool application. Unfortunately, I couldnt use it because there was a recording issue with the iPod Touch (2nd Gen). Thats been fixed with this release. This release also added a metronome (that can be set via tapping or BPM) and a few samples that can be used as click tracks. Both great features that work well. The only other thing Id like, personally (I use it to record my guitar playing with Apples new in-ear headphones), is the addition of an option to adjust microphone sensitivity. Finally, because of all the things it does, this program can be a bit of a memory hog and recommends that I restart at times. Itd be great if the code could be made more efficient, but that might just be a hardware limitation. All-in-all, great job guys!

Great!! Cant say enough!

This app has revolutionized my songwriting, particularly since the 2.0 update. It made my iPhone the studio of choice for quickly laying down ideas. Nothing I have ever owned does it easier or faster, without having to go back and forth to a DAW, much less fitting in my pocket. Now I just sit the iPhone on my music stand and never have to move until the basic idea is complete. After that I sync the files to my desktop, drag them into GarageBand or Logic for some effects, then present the song to the band. Only thing Id like is input gain control and a preference *not* to have it automatically move to the next track after recording is stopped. Bravo!!!

Almost really awesome

I have the 2nd ten itouch and have been irritated by the frequent freezing of the app. What recording I have done so far shows me this is a potentially a great songwriting tool. Sort out the bugs and Ill give you a couple more stars.

not the best

I got this app for recording demos. Ive spent more time trying to work around the problems then actual tracking. One big flaw is that you cant delete tracks. You have to record over them like a tape recorder. We live in a digital world where we have UNDO buttons, I dont know why this doesnt have one, or at least a delete button. The other flaw, and i think this is a fatal flaw, when you mix down a track to a song file it doesnt use the fader or pan settings!? This defeats the purpose of having a 4 track mixer in the first place. This also has a less than audible volume for playback. If you want to get something for recording demos DO NOT PURCHASE THIS! Just use the voice recorder that comes with the phone

Needs work!

Crashes often. No way to adjust record volume and default is way too low, not even usable for one track let alone four. If you want to record song ideas just use the built in memo recorder, its much better, and its free. If this app was tweaked it could be great, but it has a long way to go before I would recommend buying it.

All around exceptionally made program.

This is an amazing program. A couple times I would look for a feature and feel a bit dissapointed it wasnt there only to find it and be really impressed. Solidly designed. Great appearance. One concern though if you intend to use the apple headphones with mic: the metronome can easily be loud enough to be heard by the mic. I tried recording with the headset on and the sound of the mic grating against my beard was really loud. Just something to be concious of. If you are planning to use the apple headset you have to think about how you are going to place it consistantly somewhere to record the sound. Everytime you make a track you have to pick up the headset and monitor what you recorded then when you go back your mic will be positioned differently. Small detail and nothing to do with program but something to be award of. Good job guys.

Unstable

Previous version crashed often. New version wont play recordings for more than 40 seconds. This isnt right. Im running 3.0 but I expect better for something I paid for, especially at this price. I tried deleting reinstalling and restarting several times and no difference. Please fix.. and add a live input monitor if you can. Thank you.

Works well

Been using it since it came out and got some good results with the Blue mic. Recently did some recordings that were used in game. Vance www.sonicsolutions.info

Useless for recording song ideas

Its missing a core feature from every recording software ever invented! U cant even trim the recordings or align them.. Meaning u cannot cut the parts that arent good from recording ideas.. Id rather use the voice memo that comes with the phone. Also 10$ is a joke for a soft with 2 features (record and play) thats it u cant edit the recordings in any way.. Frustrating i just lost my inspiration trying to do something with this

Amazing app!

Ive gotten more practical use out of this than any PC based DAW software Ive ever used. Computer based recording tools can be complicated and cumbersome not so with FourTrack. This app inspires me to record. Its portabilty is easily its strongest point. It distills recording down to its essence; record, playback and mix. Perfect for my needs. Sound quality is as good, no worrying about latency or input issues. Grab your guitar, hit record and youre off! Love it! Two suggestions that would make this app even better: - ability to delete single tracks - playback through phone speaker Thanks for making such a quality app! I am still amazed that I record decent audio tracks on my freaking cell phone. Good job!

A fair compact recorder

-Used this several times to record live & it did a fair job. -This is certainly not a "superpowerful studio". -Like all multitrack apps, its limited & can never function like a real mixingboard or DAW. -Ive used less expensive apps that produce the same quality tracks.

Ive never made music or used a four track

like all of my musician friends so this is either a really relevant post or not at all. this app was easy to learn and had me recording (godawful) music within minutes. I cant believe the same four track recording that made sergeant pepper is now helping me annoy my roommates with frankly unlistenable music. and on my phone no less!

Nice app

Good app needs reverb and more mix features

Works well but

For the play button, can you change it to a "stop-pause" symbol on the button when it is actually playing? Thanks

Overpriced considering some major glitches

There are some serious problems with this app that make it unusable. 1) the mic is way too sensitive. Pretty much have to put the phone in the other room not to clip, and no way of adjusting this. 2) it impossible to erase one track individually! So when you are multitracking and make a mistake on your 4th track, there is no way of rerecording that one take. You have to delete the whole thing and start over. 3) There is no email sharing option, this is the handiest way of sending the files.

Greatest. App. Ever.

From a songwriting perspective, this app alone makes it worth buying an iPhone. Highly recommended.

Dont waste your money on this garbage

Buggy, crashy and sucky, all at the same pitiful time.

Great, could be perfect if:

This app is amazing, its easy to show proof of concept to the band by dubbing harmonies and assorted instruments.etc and its pretty fast to get up and running. Bugs: The input bugs out sometimes and feeds back through the speaker- it requires a full restart. I also have not been able to get the fx to work. Features: It would be nice if it went back to the song creation menu after opening the app because it easy to record over an old track thinking its a new session. Would love if waveform editing was implemented on an individual and group track level so I could make simple edits to cut out excess playing, talking.etc And it would be cool if you could import material from voice memos. I dont know if this is possible: due to system access rights.
